Job summary

PowerGrid Services is seeking a field supervisor to provide direct supervision and technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices, and Groundmen across electrical distribution projects in Alabama. You will enforce safety practices, read site plans, and coordinate with foremen and project managers to ensure timely completion.

The role requires CDL A, first aid, CPR/pole top rescue, and the ability to work at heights up to 60 feet.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Class A level experience installing and maintaining overhead and underground power lines.
  • Valid CDL A required.
  • First Aid Certification required.
  • CPR and pole top rescue certification required.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 60 feet; longer heights preferred.
  • Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility crews.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on all electrical distribution and associated equipment projects.
  • Communicate safety requirements and best practices; enforce them on the job site.
  • Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scopes of work.
  • Supervise operation of material handler bucket truck and digger truck; set up and operate wire pulling equipment.
  • Supervise the setting of poles in an energized zone and complex jobs.
  • Ensure safe work zone cover-up, proper rigging, and accurate as-built reports.
  • Adequate understanding of switching procedures and coordination with project personnel.

Job description

  • Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on all electrical distribution and associated equipment projects.
  • Communicate, demonstrate and enforce safety requirements and best practices.
  • Possess comfort level with using new technologies (mobile devices/apps) and/or show willingness to learn.
  • Understands the use and care of all required personal protective equipment.
  • Knows the minimum approach distance for the voltage involved.
  • Understands the proper wear and care of FR clothing.
  • Maintains a safe working environment for all employees under their supervision.
  • Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scopes of work.
  • Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
  • Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.
  • Qualified to supervise gloving on all voltages up to 40 KV.
  • Supervise the operation of a material handler bucket truck and a digger truck.
  • Supervise the set up and operation of all wire pulling equipment.
  • Knows all basic transformer hook-ups (single and three phase).
  • Supervise the cover-up of the work zone for the work involved.
  • Has excellent knowledge of rigging and wire pulling tools.
  • Supervise the setting of poles in an energized zone.
  • Supervise complex jobs.
  • Supervise the phasing of circuits and checking of rotation.
  • Supervise the restoration of service and troubleshooting of problems during restoration.
  • Properly fill out an as-built report.
  • Determine if skill level of employee is correct for the employee’s classification.
  • Adequate understanding of switching procedures.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Requires Class A level experience installing and maintaining overhead and underground power lines.
  • Valid CDL A is required.
  • First Aid Certification is required.
  • Competency in CPR and pole top rescue is required.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 60 feet is required. Prefer capability to work at heights higher than 60 feet.
  • Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility crews is required.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Email, Abacus, Excel, KPA)
  • Competent in operating ALL equipment including track bucket/digger.
  • Certification in safe traffic control practices and public safety techniques per state and local regulations are required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laws regarding Miss Utility.
  • Complete commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Must be able to pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination.
  • Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations.
  • Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.
