Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Power Distribution Engineer to join our client’s team. This fully remote role must be based in the Tampa or Orlando area and focuses on preparing project packages including material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, and construction drawings for electrical distribution installations.

You will support design of overhead and underground systems, perform calculations, and ensure compliance with standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Support design and engineering of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
• Prepare construction drawings, engineering calculations, and equipment specifications.
• Contribute to project documentation and labor/material estimates.
• Collaborate with project managers, designers, field personnel, clients and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with utility standards, codes and regulations.
• Perform load calculations and voltage drop analyses under senior guidance.
• Conduct site visits to gather data and validate designs.

Job description

Our client is looking for a Power Distribution Engineer to join the team! The position is fully remote but must be sitting in either the Tampa or Orlando area. The focus of the role is to prepare project and job packages that include material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site drawings and construction drawings for installations of electrical and power distribution projects in a cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design and engineering of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
• Assist with preparation of construction drawings, engineering calculations, equipment specifications, and project documentation.
• Participate in utility distribution projects involving system upgrades, reliability improvements, new customer connections, and infrastructure modernization.
• Collaborate with project managers, designers, field personnel, clients, and subcontractors to deliver projects safely and efficiently.
• Review utility standards, codes, and regulations to ensure engineering compliance.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and equipment sizing under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Conduct field investigations and site visits to gather project information and validate design assumptions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline OR 5+ years of distribution experience
• Preferably 1-4 years of power distribution experience
• Experience with designing overhead or underground electrical distribution systems
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
