Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Distribution Design Engineer to join a leading engineering consulting firm in Greenville, SC. The role focuses on designing and upgrading electrical distribution systems from 4kV to 138kV, both overhead and underground, with emphasis on safety and quality standards.

The engineer will perform structural and electrical calculations, prepare permitting documents for AHJs, and provide construction support including post-construction reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Industrial) from ABET-accredited program.
• CAD tools experience.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems from 4kV through 138kV.
• Comply with safety requirements and design/quality expectations.
• Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag/tension, voltage drop and flicker.
• Develop permitting documents for AHJs.
• Provide engineering support during construction and post-construction reviews.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation.

Job description

Insight Global is looking for a Distribution Design Engineer for one of our large engineering consulting firms. This engineer will aide in the upgrades of a major energy providers distribution grids.

- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports

- Comply with the company and Client Safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations

- Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker

- Develop permitting documents for different AHJ's

- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met

- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution

- Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools experience

- Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Construction background, design work, civil engineering, electrical experience and programming experience

- Work Management Systems (WMS) SAP B1 and/or SAGE Experience

- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar
