Job summary

CenterPoint Energy in Houston seeks an engineer to coordinate feeder development, outage scheduling, and contingency analysis across multiple departments, serving as a technical liaison with RTO and Distribution Control to support system reliability and operations.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering, 2 years in distribution operations or related field, and ability to travel to field locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 years of experience in distribution operations, outage scheduling, load studies, or construction coordination.
  • Ability to interpret electrical models, drawings and technical documents; apply electrical theory.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planned feeder development construction with multiple departments to minimize outages.
  • Schedule and coordinate high-voltage outages to facilitate projects.
  • Review Distribution Development Plans and provide input for circuit ties and devices.
  • Serve as liaison with Real Time Operations and Distribution Control; assist with compliance.
  • Utilize power modeling software to identify and mitigate risk during construction.
  • Perform contingency switching studies and provide operational plans to limit customer impact.
  • Investigate voltage issues, monitor circuits and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Review isolations for reliability and provide technical support on circuit configurations.
  • Provide technical assistance on special projects and participate in training on Transformer Utilization and Black Start.
