Job Summary

Coordinates feeder development, outage scheduling, and contingency analysis across multiple departments while serving as a technical liaison with RTO and Distribution Control to support system reliability and operations.

Essential Functions

• Coordinate planned feeder development construction from conception to completion with Transmission, Substation, Major Underground, and other affected departments to minimize the number and duration of outages.
• Schedule and coordinate construction, feeder cut-ins, and high-voltage network and distribution outages to facilitate work group projects.
• Review Distribution Development Plans and provide input for circuit ties, switches, and other devices to improve reliability; monitor and coordinate completion of all associated work.
• Serve as liaison with Real Time Operations (RTO), Distribution Control, and other outage coordinators; assist with RTO compliance requirements, practices, and procedures.
• Utilize power modeling software to identify and mitigate risk during construction.
• Perform contingency switching studies and identify contingencies in advance due to construction activity; provide operational plans to limit customer exposure.
• Investigate voltage complaints, monitor circuits and substation transformers, identify unbalanced circuits, and coordinate corrective actions with Service Center personnel and Power Quality.
• Work with Power Quality and Distribution Protection on recommendations for the installation, repair, or replacement of protective devices to sectionalize feeders and long laterals.
• Review possible isolations within the distribution system for reliability or loading concerns and make all parties aware of limitations; provide technical support to Claims regarding circuit switching and configurations.
• Provide technical assistance on special projects, deliver annual training on Transformer Utilization and Black Start, support system restoration during emergencies, and perform Heat Watch duties during summer peak.
• Able to travel to field locations for inspection, installation, investigation and occasionally to travel out of town overnight for meetings or conferences.

Education Description

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) from an accredited college or university.

Experience

• 2 years of experience in distribution operations, outage scheduling, load studies, or construction coordination, preferably in a utility environment.
• Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.
• Able to use a computer equipment and software programs to provide project documentation, relay, settings, event analysis, equipment commissioning and management reports.
• Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.
• Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.
• Able to interpret and apply the National Electric and National Electric Safety Codes.

Physical Requirements

• Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
• Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
• Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
• Able to certify and use personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs on a daily basis.
• Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner, and enter/exit vehicle unassisted.

• Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
