Job description

Position Purpose: The DC Area Supervisor leads an hourly team and influences the entire distribution team to perform the fast-paced work required to run the distribution center efficiently, safely, and productively. This role manages team members' responsibilities, ensuring prompt, efficient, and accurate handling of merchandise, and develops team goals.

This role is responsible for hiring, evaluating, developing, disciplining, and terminating hourly associates. The supervisor manages 20 to 30 hourly associates.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Managing Process (45%): Ensures all operations procedures are followed effectively, recommends changes to the Operations Manager or Assistant General Manager, evaluates work methods, and recommends improvements.
  2. Coaching and Developing Associates (25%): Guides associates in daily operations, monitors productivity, safety, service, and quality. Responsible for training, coaching, feedback, evaluations, and resolving associate relations issues. Handles hiring, compensation, discipline, and terminations. Investigates operational errors and recommends corrective actions.
  3. Drives Results (15%): Maintains inventory accuracy, reviews reports, and identifies improvements in productivity, accuracy, quality, and expenses.
  4. Business Planning (15%): Coordinates and monitors operations to meet performance targets, reviews reports, and plans staffing needs based on business metrics.

Additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager, or General Manager.

Reporting and Supervision:

This position reports to the Operations Manager and supervises work activities of others, including making recommendations on personnel decisions. May involve direct supervision of a shift or coordination of multiple work groups.

Travel and Physical Requirements:

Typically less than 10% overnight travel. Requires physical exertion such as walking, standing, lifting, and climbing. Located in a comfortable indoor environment with infrequent unpleasant conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18+ years old and legally permitted to work in the U.S.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and ability to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree; experience with Warehouse Management Systems; 3+ years supervisory experience.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED (minimum); no additional education required; 2+ years of work experience preferred.
Leadership and Competencies:
  • People Management, Financial Acumen, Creative Thinking, Business Communication, Conflict Management, Operations Systems.
