Position Overview

Autodesk is seeking an experienced Distinguished Architect to join our AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) division. Our distributed team is dedicated to solving large-scale challenges in the construction industry. As a Distinguished Architect, you will identify, assess, prioritize, and drive the transformation of Autodesk’s Administration system into a scalable, extensible, and robust enterprise offering.

As the senior-most architect for the Admin domain, you will define the technical strategy, partner with peer architects and platform leaders, and own the long-term evolution of foundational services impacting every user and project in Autodesk’s cloud. This role requires making strategic tradeoffs, driving platform evolution, and ensuring alignment with both legacy and future needs.

Location: Candidates in the San Francisco Bay area preferred, but remote or within a commutable distance of an Autodesk office is acceptable. 0-15% travel may be required.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead the architectural design and implementation of Common Project Admin, a shared service for user, roles, licenses, and permissions management across all Autodesk products.
  2. Rearchitect entitlements for flexible product bundling and provisioning.
  3. Define project structure and membership compatible with Autodesk’s ecosystem and future growth.
  4. Ensure designs are scalable, performant, and future-proof, capable of supporting significant growth.
  5. Maintain backward compatibility and product fit for Construction Admin use cases, particularly for Construction.
  6. Collaborate with other architects on platform solutions and roadmap changes.
  7. Partner on taxonomy and shared system models across teams.
  8. Lead Architect Council sessions for AEC Construction, facilitating cross-project proposals and approvals.
  9. Mentor junior architects and tech leads, reviewing and approving their work.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  2. 12+ years of experience as a software engineer or architect.
  3. Self-directed with strategic work execution skills.
  4. Experience with fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
  5. Ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  6. Experience with tools/technologies like Node.js, Terraform, Postgres, AWS.
  7. Proven cloud-native solution architecture skills.
  8. Leadership experience in guiding development teams and setting technical direction.
  9. Hands-on experience across the software lifecycle, including coding, operations, incident management, and postmortems.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience at a large SaaS company.
  2. Platform management experience with diverse consumer bases.
  3. Innovation recognition through patents, publications, or conference presentations.
