Job summary

Ski Cooper is seeking a Dispatcher to act as the communication hub for mountain operations, coordinating radio, phone, and email information across teams. You will work with the Mountain Operations group to streamline daily tasks and incident responses, ensuring safety and efficiency during peak season.

You’ll monitor multiple radio channels, prioritize calls, and maintain logs while supporting weekend staffing and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18+ with valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior dispatching experience preferred.
  • ICS 100, 200, and 700 certifications required prior to beginning of operating season
  • CPR certification required prior to beginning of operating season
  • Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent listening and communication skills; ability to speak clearly and precisely
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to stay calm and quickly coordinate multiple tasks in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of ski area operations preferred
  • Ability to work well in solo and team environments
  • A professional, positive, and enthusiastic attitude
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computing

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and operates 3 UHF radio channels according to company protocol.
  • Maintains knowledge of company procedures, policies, and emergency action plan.
  • Hears and reacts to radio and telephone communications.
  • Prioritizes calls based on urgency and importance.
  • Disseminates information via radio, telephone, and email as needed.
  • Monitors status, personnel location, weather conditions, and external threats.
  • Dispatches personnel and equipment to incidents or events per SOPs.
  • Ensures consistency in response to situations.
  • Coordinates with outside agencies as needed.
  • Maintains accurate communication logs using CAD and incident management software.
  • Trains Dispatcher I to assist on weekends and cover Dispatcher II’s days off.
  • Coordinates with Sr. Director on daily conditions and changes.
  • Provides clerical support to Mountain Operations management.
  • Performs any other tasks assigned.

Description

The Dispatcher is the “air traffic controller” of the mountain, responsible for receiving and transmitting radio calls, disseminating information to the proper personnel, and providing internal and external communication support to the entire operation. The Dispatcher works closely with the Mountain Operations team to coordinate all of the daily operations activities.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Monitors and operates 3 repeated UHF radio channels according to company radio protocol
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of all company procedures, policies, and emergency action plan
  • Hears, understands, and reacts appropriately to radio and telephone communication, often simultaneously
  • Prioritizes calls according to urgency and importance
  • Provides information to company personnel via radio, telephone, and email as needed or requested
  • Monitors operational status, personnel location, weather conditions, external threats, etc.
  • Dispatches personnel and equipment as needed based on company procedures and operational knowledge to respond to incidents, events, or other operational needs
  • Ensures consistency in response to situations
  • Coordinates with outside agencies as needed
  • Maintains accurate communication logs and status/histories of calls, incidents, etc. using 1Risk Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and incident management software system
  • Trains and guides Dispatcher I to effectively assist on weekends, and cover Dispatcher II’s days off
  • Coordinates closely with Sr. Director, Mountain Operations about daily conditions and any operational changes
  • Provides clerical support to Mountain Operations management as requested
  • Any other tasks assigned

Working conditions

The Dispatcher position is based primarily inside and involves extended periods of computer screen time and keyboard use; but may also be outside at times, exposed to temperature extremes (above 85 degrees and below 20 degrees), sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and high altitudes (10,500+ feet).

Physical requirements

Must be able to walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend stairs, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, lift objects that may be heavy, and possess the ability to ski or snowboard at a minimum of an intermediate level.

Seasonal Status

This is a winter seasonal position with an expected season of early December 2026 through Late March to mid April 2027. Employment in subsequent seasons is not guaranteed. Be sure to speak with your supervisor if you desire to return the next season.
