Job summary

Solitude Mountain Resort is seeking a Mountain Operations Dispatcher to act as the central communications hub for on- and off-mountain activities. The role requires excellent verbal and written communication, meticulous organization, and calm decision-making in emergencies.

You will coordinate with multiple departments, track lift information, manage schedules, and maintain records while supporting guests and staff under fast-paced conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 months related experience in a high intensity job or training preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Complete FEMA ICE 100 course within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all communication channels (radio, phone, emails, Teams) and coordinate issues such as injuries, lift problems, missing persons, or avalanches.
  • Communicate clearly with guests and staff; manage dispatch communications effectively.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and logs; support lift information tracking and reporting.
  • Update lift schedules, delays, and status; publish to Solitude Mountain Resort website and app.
  • Attend Ski Patrol and Mountains Operations meetings; participate in debriefs and reviews.
  • Protect sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; act with sound judgment and privacy.

Job Title: Mountain Operations Dispatcher

Department: Dispatch

Job Status: Full-Time / Hourly / Seasonal

Job Summary: Dispatcher is an entry-level position responsible for ensuring the seamless and safe coordination of on- and off-mountain activities by serving as the central communication hub for all mountain operations departments, emergency response teams, and guests. This role demands exceptional verbal and written communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure while handling sensitive and sometimes confidential information in a fast-paced environment.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Base hourly pay range: $18.65 - $21.00 per hour

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of the Solitude Mountain Resorts hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will be based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel.

Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks; other duties may be assigned:

  • Monitor all communication avenues: multiple radio channels, multiple phone lines, emails, and Microsoft Teams channels; for any issues or inquiries that arise. These issues include, but are not limited to: injuries, lift issues, missing persons, power issues, avalanches, etc.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to interact clearly with guests and staff and manage dispatch communications effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills with keen attention to detail; including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access and Excel.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service and safety, with proven skills in conflict resolution and the ability to effectively address and elevate guest or team concerns as needed, with safety at the forefront.
  • Reliable and punctual; able to arrive on time for shift, regardless of weather or road conditions.
  • Serve as a liaison between the VP of Resort Operations and key departments regarding daily conditions, operational changes, and priorities. Share appropriate updates via radio, phone, Microsoft Teams and email to provide effective distribution of information across teams.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, including logs, radio transmissions, phone calls, lift downtime, and other relevant information.
  • Support data tracking and reporting for lift information.
  • Update and manage lift schedules, delays, and status; ensure timely publication to the Solitude Mountain Resort website and app.
  • Monitor patrol locations and coordinate all on-hill travel and traffic during avalanche mitigation.
  • Assist Dispatch Manager with any projects or administrative tasks they deem appropriate. Upon approval of the Dispatch Manager, employees may assist the VP of Resort Operations and other operations managers with projects and administrative tasks when appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in all Ski Patrol and Mountains Operations meetings; daily morning meetings, post-incident reviews and debriefs, etc.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively during high intensity situations.
  • Effective team player.
  • Proficient and trained with all Dispatch manual policies and procedures.
  • Complete the FEMA ICE 100 course within first year of employment
  • Able to quickly analyze, respond and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously during shift, while maintaining composure and effectiveness in emergency situations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information, exercising sound judgment in determining what can be shared and with whom, in alignment with company policies, ensuring appropriate communication and adherence to privacy protocols.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts; ability to work shifts longer than scheduled.
  • Beginner to Advanced skier; must be able to understand resort layout. Specifically for times when investigative questioning for response coordination is necessary.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, see, and hear. Must be capable of sitting for long periods of time, up to 90% or more of a normal 8 to 10 hour work shift. Must be capable of occasionally carrying, lifting, pushing or pulling up to 35 lbs. Must be capable of occasionally squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, and balancing, able to climb ladders, and shovel snow.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor/Outdoor: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee will frequently be exposed to extreme cold, wetness and/or humidity, and occasionally blizzards and extreme storm conditions.
  • Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate.
  • Equipment Used in Job: Radios, telephones, computers, and various office equipment.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 months related experience in a high intensity job and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Previous radio communications and/or mountain operations experience
