Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) in Detroit, MI is seeking a daytime Dispatcher to coordinate truck operations, take calls, and dispatch drivers to supplier or customer locations.

Location: Detroit, MIFerrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs and has an immediate opportunity for a Dispatcher on day shift at the Detroit , MI location. The Dispatcher is responsible d ispatching jobs as required by receiving calls, dispatching personnel and vehicles, and providing pre-arrival instructions to callers.Summary of Responsibilities:Take phone calls and dispatch trucks to a specific supplier or customer location.Enter, update and retrieve information from computer programs to perform duties as required.Enter load information into the software program.Set up trucks with appropriate boxes for the next day’s run.Arrange delivery appointments for outbound loads.Direct truck traffic and communicate with the drivers regarding their unloading area and/or next destination.Issues receipts and payments to customersMake sure drivers/brokers have appropriate documents to dump material at various locations.Test, inspect and operate the radio, telephone, computer and other equipment as needed.Optimize equipment logistics and ensure scales are accurate.Communicate and assist yard employees and weighmaster as necessary.Prepare, review and maintain reports, statistics, and records.Miscellaneous clerical duties, including answering phones, etc.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma/GEDExcellent mathematical skills requiredAbility to perform multiple tasks simultaneously by effectively prioritizing and organizing assignmentsProficient in MS Office programs (Excel, Outlook, Word)Excellent customer service requiredMust regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 poundsPreferred Qualifications:Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferredKnowledge of Internet software and Database softwareOccasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderateSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focusFerrous Processing and Trading is a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
