Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and must be at least 18 years of age.
• Experience in scrap industry preferred.
• Computer experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic math and data entry skills.
• Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks at once.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written communication.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
• Must be able to work in an environment with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and weather changes.

Responsibilities

• Weight inbound and outbound vehicles and inspect loads.
• Direct loads to unloading areas and assist in purchases details.
• Ensure safety standards and PPE use and maintain site cleanliness.
• Operate and maintain forklifts and skid steers.
• Enter material grades into inventory system and direct to location.
• Provide day-to-day training and guidance to the team.
• Answer questions about materials, pricing and procedures.
• Maintain records and prepare proper paperwork for shipments.
• Communicate with transportation, customers, management, and yard staff.
• Maintain scale house and grounds.

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Scale Clerk at the Detroit, MIlocation. The Scale Clerk is responsible for weighing all inbound and outbound vehicles, inspecting loose loads, directing them to proper unloading areas, and assisting in the details of purchases.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards as identified, and maintain cleanliness of the site.
• Accurately inspect all materials ensuring correct weights, materials description, and grade for all inbound and outbound loads.
• Determine the grade of the material, enter it into the inventory system, and direct to proper location.
• Operate & maintain mobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts, skid steers.
• Provide day-to-day training and guidance to develop our team to its fullest potential
• Answer customer questions about materials, pricing and procedures.
• Maintain records as required.
• Research, compare, and evaluate local markets.
• Manage, arrange, and schedule pickups and deliveries with carriers.
• Assist with processing as needed, periodically operate & maintain equipment
• Maintain scale house and keep grounds organized
• Operate scale computer, applying correct material and inventory codes.
• Prepare proper paperwork for shipments
• Communicate effectively with transportation, customers, management, and yard employees
• Interacts with customers or drivers to direct or assist them
• Insure quality of inbound and outbound materials

Minimum Qualifications:
