The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, diesel mechanic experience, and preferably a CDL.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical systems on trucks and yard machinery.
• Diagnose air system and electrical issues; perform diagnostics and repairs.
• Inspect, lubricate, and service equipment per maintenance schedules; change tires.
• Make service calls on down trucks and retrieve parts as needed.
• Drive trucks and trailers to test performance; assist with repairs and test drives.
• Maintain site cleanliness and perform general housekeeping; support safety policies.
• Work rotating shifts and adapt to outdoor, dusty environments.

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America's premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Mechanic on 2nd Shift at our Kee Container location. The Mechanic is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of trucks and heavy-duty machinery.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards as identified, and maintain cleanliness of the site.

• Performs repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical equipment on the site's trucks and yard machinery.

• Air system diagnostics and repair.

• Electrical diagnostics and repairs

• Inspect, lubricate and service equipment per company maintenance schedules.

• Change flat tires.

• Make service calls on down trucks and pick up parts from various dealerships as required.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and make necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements

• Drive trucks and trailers to test their performance.

• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED and must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must have valid driver's license, CDL preferred.

• Experience as a diesel mechanic and experience with hydraulic systems preferred.

• Experience welding and torching preferred.

• Mechanic license or equivalent experience.

• Ability to work independently, self-motivated and self-directed.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to maintain accurate records

• Ability to follow oral and written communication

• Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects

• Ability to endure physical and outdoor work on a daily basis.

• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
