Job summary

PVS Transportation in Detroit, MI is seeking a Dispatcher to manage driver scheduling, safety compliance, and cross-team communication among drivers, customer service, and management.

The role requires scheduling expertise, DOT knowledge, and proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and TMS tools. The candidate should be on-call 24/7 and able to operate in a mainframe/PC environment. Join us to support reliable, on-time transportation services.

Qualifications

• DOT regulations knowledge is required.
• Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to read driver logs and identify errors.
• Experience with mainframe/PC environments.
• On-call availability 24/7.
• Scheduling and dispatching trucks and drivers.
• Experience with Transportation Management System (TMS) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Schedule driver start times, load and delivery times.
• Coordinate with drivers to optimize Hours Of Service.
• Monitor daily driver progress across markets.
• Track workflow using XRS and TMW systems.
• Print and verify BOLs with correct instructions.
• Ensure COA is attached to BOL and review for instructions.
• Communicate late loads to CS and update dispatch sheets.
• Handle same-day load calls and changes with customers.
• Cross-train across markets and assist with testing OOS equipment.
• Contribute to procedures and weekly on-time performance reports.

The Dispatcher, PVS Transportation manages scheduling drivers, influencing a strong safety culture, developing and managing reports in Excel, and providing fluent communication between the drivers, customer service and management team.

Responsibilities

• Schedule driver start time, load and delivery times
• Partner with drivers to manage and maximize Hours Of Service
• Monitor Daily Progress of drivers in all markets
• Monitor Daily workflow/XRS and TMW
• Print next day BOL’s, review for special instructions and place in corresponding mailboxes
• Ensure proper C of A is attached to BOL
• Review BOL for special instructions
• If late loads occur send email and contact CS group about late load
• If changes occur update dispatch sheets with any and all changes
• Contact CS about cancelled loads, product pickups and PO’s.
• Manage same day loads called in
• Be Cross Trained in all markets
• Work with Transportation Manager to schedule OOS equipment to be tested
• Assist in the documentation of procedures and policies
• Run weekly on-time report

Supervisory Responsibilities

Models and teaches the Nicholson Nine values in all supervisory activities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the department's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: Interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Education and/or experience

• Solid understanding of the D.O.T. rules and regulations, the driver log book, and possess the ability to read driver logs and point out errors.
• Fluent in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Have the ability or experience required to operate in a mainframe and pc environment.
• Able to be on call by phone 24/7
• Must have experience in scheduling and dispatching trucks and drivers.
• 1-3 years’ experience in the transportation or logistics field.
• Transportation Management System experience is a plus.
