Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Dispatcher receives all incoming calls, answers inquiries related to Mountain Transit services, schedules passengers for Dial-a-Ride service, correctly logs customer feedback. Utilizes a two-way radio system and Mountain Transit software applications to directly monitor, coordinate, and oversee the daily operation of all transportation services.
Requirements:
- Monitors and responds as necessary and appropriate to all radio transmissions.
- Answers and responds appropriately to all incoming telephone calls to the dispatch office.
- Schedules, coordinates, and logs all Dial-A-Ride requests and dispatch requested Dial-A-Ride service.
- Records and maintains an accurate log of all incoming calls.
- Coordinates the response to driver reported emergencies. Informs and updates the operations supervisor on the status of the emergency.
- Arranges for substitute driver(s) when a driver(s) calls in absent.
- Receives and logs all lost and found items.
- Accurately completes Shift Reports noting any incidents, accidents, or driver issues.
- Records received customer feedback and alerts supervisor via e-mail to feedback.
- Attends any required training sessions.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Required Education and Experience:
- A minimum of two years of previous experience in a related field
- Knowledgeable and skilled in radio communications and telephone etiquette.
- Ability to use a computer and navigate websites to log information and attend to multiple monitors.
- Ability to learn and become skilled in using Mountain Transit’s telephone and radio systems.
- Ability to evaluate a situation and determine the most appropriate response.
- Skilled in customer relations and communication.
- Considerable knowledge of passenger safety applicable to public transportation.
- Ability to adhere to policy and procedures contained in the Drivers Handbook and Mountain Transit Employee Manual.
- Ability to follow directions from supervisors.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing as necessary for reporting accidents, incidents, and vehicle defects.
- Knowledge and understanding of California regulations for Commercial Drivers.
- Must possess a current California driver’s license.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Special Requirements:
- Must pass a criminal background check with no criminal convictions which may, in the sole judgement of Mountain Transit, constitute a threat to the property or safety of others.
Working Conditions:
- Work entails extended sitting with periods of frequent standing, walking, and bending.
- Must occasionally attend meetings and required training sessions.
- May require road dispatch for special services (i.e.: BBMR)
- Must work varied days and hours, including weekends and some holidays.
