Job summary

MTM Transit is seeking a Dispatcher in Bakersfield, CA to direct day-to-day route and trip operations, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and on-time performance. You will communicate with drivers, monitor service quality, and coordinate with the client and internal teams.

Starting pay is $19.89/hour with shifts from 2:30am to 12:00am; we value reliability, strong communication, and organizational skills to maintain high service standards across Kern Transit.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years of customer service experience.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Must pass criminal background and MVR checks.

Responsibilities

• Assist with phone information and dispatching of rides.
• Organize and route trips based on schedule to ensure on-time performance.
• Provide directions to drivers and assist with scheduling issues.
• Maintain communication with transportation providers for updates.
• Record incidents and report no-shows or on-time performance metrics.
• Monitor radio, phones and on-road service quality.

What will your job look like?

The Dispatcher works to direct the day-to-day route and trip operations. Assists with organizing and conducting activities to assure safe, cost-effective, on-time operating performance, tracks and reports sign-in and sign-out times, assure routes are timely, and communicate service issues to the appropriate personnel. This work is done in compliance with the procedures defined by the client and in conformance with company procedures, which involves daily communication and interaction with drivers and monitors (as applicable).

Service: Kern Transit

Starting Pay Rate: $19.89/hour

Schedule: Shifts will be between the hours of 2:30am-12:00am (open availability required, as we cannot guarantee what shift you’ll be selected for)

What you’ll do:

• Assist with all phone call information and dispatching of rides
• Organize and route trips based on schedule and location to ensure optimal performance
• Provide assistance to drivers for directions to destinations
• Assist drivers and transportation providers with problems or issues relating to scheduling
• Establish and maintain effective communication with transportation providers
• Report and record all incidents to the applicable manager
• Document and report provider no shows or on-time-performance issues
• Inform transportation providers of their next-days trips and any new trips that occur
• Monitor radio, telephones and on-road provision of service for quality
• Record time of departure, destination, and expected time of return
• Provide feedback on drivers’ performance

What you’ll need:

_ Experience, Education & Certifications: _

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• Must have 2 years’ experience in providing customer service
• Possess valid authorization to work in the United States
• Must pass criminal background check and investigation & Motor Vehicle Record check

_ Skills: _

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good organizational skills with attention to timeliness and details
• Must be able to demonstrate effective use of scheduling software, two-way radio communication and data analysis skills
• Skills in the use of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel and other Microsoft applications
• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
• Regular attendance is required

Even better if you have…

• 1 year experience in providing one-on-one, daily, passenger service over the phone, handling a high volume of calls per day preferred
• 2+ years in transportation routing, dispatching, and scheduling expertise preferred
• 1 year experience working with the applicable transit scheduling system preferred
• Knowledge of GPS and GIS systems preferred
• California CDL Class A or B with Passenger Endorsements
