Discovery & Claims Specialist — Litigation Support

Job summary

City of New York's Law Department seeks a Claims Specialist in its Litigation Support Division to help agencies comply with discovery obligations. You will manage record requests, search records, and coordinate with internal and external staff to ensure timely and accurate responses.

Under supervision, you will monitor court due dates and ensure records are legally and factually accurate. With experience, you may take on staff supervision and larger project responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 1) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or
• 2) An associate degree or 60 semester credits with two years of full-time experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss; or
• 3) A four-year high school diploma or equivalent with four years of full-time experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss; or
• 4) A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1–3 above.
• College education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 semester credits may be substituted for each year of required experience; however, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Search for records maintained in the ordinary course of the agency's business.
• Manage a caseload of matters pertaining to claims against the City and specific agencies.
• Monitor court due dates and ensure records produced are legally and factually accurate.
• Contribute to larger projects by following process outlines and providing project responses.
