Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Patient Care Technician to support discharge throughput in the Discharge Lounge, coordinating with inpatient units, transport services, pharmacy, and other departments to reduce delays and optimize hospital capacity.

This on-site role offers a 40-hour work week, day shift 10am-6pm, Monday-Friday with rotating weekends. Minimum education includes a high school diploma; multiple pathways for advancement to PCT II exist.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• PCT II may require an Associate/Bachelor's degree or 1 year healthcare facility experience.
• Active enrollment in a nursing or healthcare-related program may meet qualification.
• CNA or CMA certification may qualify for advancement.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate discharge flow to reduce delays and optimize hospital capacity.
• Support daily operations in the Discharge Lounge with inpatient units and transport.
• Maintain Basic Life Support certification as required within 2 weeks of hire.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Associate or Bachelor's degree

1 year of experience in a healthcare facility

Active enrollment in nursing school or healthcare field

Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant
