Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Patient Care Technician to support discharge throughput in the Discharge Lounge, coordinating with inpatient units, transport services, pharmacy, and other departments to reduce delays and optimize hospital capacity.

This on-site role offers a 40-hour work week, day shift 10am-6pm, Monday-Friday with rotating weekends. Minimum education includes a high school diploma; multiple pathways for advancement to PCT II exist.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Coordinate discharge flow to reduce delays and optimize hospital capacity.
• Support daily operations in the Discharge Lounge with inpatient units and transport.
• Maintain Basic Life Support certification as required within 2 weeks of hire.

Job Summary/Purpose

Minimum Training and Education

Patient Care Technician I: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Patient Care Technician II: High School Diploma/Equivalent and ONE of the following requirements must be met.

• Associate or Bachelor's degree
• 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
• At least 1 year of PCT I (.6 FTE +) experience at MUSC
• Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
• Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
• Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
