Under the direction of the Director of Disability Services (DDS)and in collaboration with the Assistant Director and departmentstaff, the Disability Services & Test Center Specialist servesin a role supporting both the Department of Disability Services andthe daily operations of the Test Center. The position isresponsible for coordinating accessibility-related services,maintaining accurate and confidential student records, supportingaccommodation-related processes, coordinating accessible testingservices, and assisting with the efficient and secure operation ofthe Test Center. The coordinator works collaboratively withstudents, faculty, and staff to maintain compliance with Section504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans withDisabilities Act (ADA), the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), and FERPA.The position also supports assistive technology initiatives and theefficient operation of the Test Center by supervising testingprocesses, maintaining secure testing environments, and ensuringexceptional service delivery.
This is a fully in-person position withresponsibilities primarily located on the University's main campus,and occasional duties at the nearby graduate center.
Duties and Responsibilities
Disability Service Coordination
- Coordinates the day-to-day administrative operations of theDepartment of Disability Services in accordance with departmentalpolicies and established procedures.
- Manage accommodation service procurement, including trackingrequests, vendor performance, payment reconciliation, and qualityassurance.
- Monitor and maintain departmental budgets, including purchaseorders, vendor payments, budget analysis, and projections.
- Coordinate procurement of office supplies and services.
- Collect, analyze, and prepare reports on DDS programs,services, accommodations, and student utilization data usingAccommodate and other university systems.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records incompliance with FERPA and university privacy requirements.
- Monitor the department's general email account and respond toinquiries.
- Provide information and support to students, faculty, and staffregarding accommodations, accessibility resources, departmentalprocedures, and related policies.
DDS Test Center Operations
- Consults with Director and department staff on the coordinationand oversight of daily operations ensuring approved testingaccommodations are implemented accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinates the scheduling and implementation of approvedtesting accommodations, including extended testing time, readers,scribes, text-to-speech technology, distraction-reduced testing,and other approved accommodations.
- Coordinates schedules and assignments for on-call testproctors.
- Ensures examinations and testing materials are received,secured, administered, and returned to faculty in accordance withdepartmental procedures.
- Serves as a liaison between students and faculty regardingtesting schedules, procedures, and accommodationimplementation.
- Maintains the security of student belongings and testingmaterials throughout the testing process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three to five years of progressively responsibleadministrative, office, student services, disability services,accessibility services, testing services, or relatedexperience.
- One to three years of related higher education experience.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADAAmendments Act (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, andFERPA and accessible testing procedures.
- Working knowledge of assistive technology, accessibilitysoftware, Microsoft Office Suite, and willingness to learn newtechnologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbalcommunication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintainingaccuracy and confidentiality.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectivelywork with diverse students, faculty, staff, and families.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, problem-solving, anddiscretion when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to accessibility, equity, inclusion,and student success.
- Ability to work independently on assigned responsibilitieswhile functioning effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Must have the ability to interact with students of variousabilities and be sensitive to a diverse campus community.
- Must be student centered, team oriented, and able to maintain aprofessional demeanor at all times including when working withdifficult persons and situations.
- Ability to work alternative schedules, including occasionalevenings, as operational needs require.
Preferred Requirements
- Three to five years of higher education experience.
- Academic background in education, psychology, counseling,special education, or related field.
- Knowledge of Accommodate.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities in a highereducation environment.
