Job summary

Eckerd Connects seeks a Disability Coordinator for the Denison Job Corps site to plan and oversee the Center Disability Student program. You will manage cognitive-disability casework, coordinate accommodations, and partner with agencies to support student success.

You will train staff on learning support needs, perform vocational assessments, and help students access Voc Rehab and SSI during their first month in the program.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelors degree in a related field preferred.
  • State teaching certification or licensure in Special Education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The Disability Coordinator plans, organizes, and implements the Center Disability Student program.
  • Manages casework for cognitive disabilities, including document collection and IDT team reviews.
  • Trains staff on learning support/disabilities and ensures appropriate accommodations.
  • Conducts initial screening, assesses needs, and coordinates living arrangements pre-arrival.
  • Performs vocational assessments for students needing learning support.
  • Develops contacts with state/community agencies representing the disabled and acts as liaison.
  • Collaborates with Voc Rehab to ensure eligibility and SSI enrollment within the first month.
  • Coordinates referrals to Health Services for speech therapy, evaluations, and follow-up.

Skills

Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Disability Coordinator plans, organizes, and implements the Center Disability Student program.
  • The Disability Coordinator is responsible for the Case Management of all Cognitive disabilities from: folder review; collection of all needed documents; IDT Team; review of TABE testing; develops academic and career technical training plans to support students’ goals and success.
  • Trains all staff on learning support/disabilities and ensures students are receiving appropriate accommodations in education, testing and training settings.
  • Participates in initial screening of disabled students, assesses students’ needs and ability to benefit from the Job Corps Program and coordinates living quarters prior to student’s arrival. Makes pre-arrival contact with new disabled students to ensure all requirements are met prior to their arrival.
  • Performs vocational assessments of all students needing learning support.
  • Develops contacts with state and community agencies representing the disabled and acts as liaison between these agencies and the Center.
  • Works closely with the Vocational Rehabilitation Agency to ensure that applicants have been formally assessed by the agency. Ensures that eligible students are signed up with Voc Rehab and SSI within their first month in the Program.
  • Develops referrals to and receives reports from Health Services with respect to speech therapy, psychological evaluations and special health problems and provides appropriate follow-up information.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Two to three years related work experience preferred.
  • State teaching certification or state licensure in Special Education preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
