Job summary

Builders Mutual Insurance Company seeks a Director of Claims, Workers' Compensation for a hybrid role based in Raleigh, NC. You will guide the financial and operational performance of our multi-state WC claims portfolio with a team of adjusters and support staff.

You’ll partner with the VP of Claims on loss trend analysis, budgeting, and expansion readiness, and share insights with executive leadership to drive data-supported decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
• Progressive management experience in Workers' Compensation claims operations (5+ years).
• Demonstrated ability to own financial results and translate data into strategy.
• Strong communication skills for executive leadership.
• Ability to design and map claims workflows and lead change.

Responsibilities

• Own the financial performance of the WC portfolio, including loss ratio, reserve adequacy, and claim duration targets.
• Partner with the VP of Claims to develop and execute annual department strategy, operating plans, and budgets.
• Conduct portfolio-level loss trend analyses to identify severity drivers and state-level outliers.
• Provide technical leadership on complex and catastrophic claims, including reserve/settlement strategy.
• Assess and build claims operational readiness to support expansion into new state markets.
• Leverage claims data and predictive analytics to inform reserving, litigation, and settlement strategies.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing claims team with a culture of accountability.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted analytics and automation to enhance file handling efficiency.
• Govern third-party vendor relationships for performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate with Underwriting, Actuarial, and Legal on service, profitability, and litigation risk.
