This role will stand up annual planning, a multi-year technology plan, and business cases, while partnering with FP&A on cost modeling and renewals, and leading a small team as it forms.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of IT experience with 4+ years leading IT strategy.
• Familiarity with TBM or comparable tech operating model.
• Proven ability to partner with FP&A, Procurement/Legal, EA and stakeholders.
• Executive-level communication skills.
• Experience building planning, financial, governance processes from scratch.
• Hands-on builder mindset, then transitioning to a small team lead.
• Comfort using LLMs for research, drafting, analysis with sound judgment.

Role overview

A consumer health hardware company is hiring a Director-level leader to build and run the IT organization's strategic planning, prioritization, and financial governance function from the ground up. The role supports a roughly 70-person IT organization that oversees about 300 applications and a technology budget in the upper tens of millions of dollars, replacing work that currently happens informally at the leadership level. This is a hybrid position based out of a San Francisco office.

Responsibilities

• Own the strategic layer for IT - value-based planning, prioritization, and governance - without absorbing architecture, delivery, data, cloud, or AI enablement ownership
• Stand up an annual planning cycle, a multi-year technology plan, and the business cases that justify funding order
• Manage a contractor bridge (Portfolio Manager, Analyst) and later hire, lead, and develop a small target-state team of 2-3 FTEs
• Build a shared, visible prioritization and governance model so decisions are not made informally or re-litigated team by team
• Partner with FP&A on cost-center modeling, contractor versus FTE spend, named application ownership, forecast inputs, and a consolidated view of total IT spend and renewal exposure
• Own procurement, contracts, renewal management, and an application inventory with a named service owner per app
• Run IT's executive operating cadence - all-hands meetings, monthly updates, quarterly roadmap reviews, leadership team meetings, and business reviews - as a system that runs without last-minute assembly

Requirements

• 12+ years of IT experience including 4+ years leading IT strategy for a fast-growing company
• Familiarity with Technology Business Management (TBM) or a comparable technology operating model for governing spend, portfolio, and value
• Track record partnering with FP&A, Procurement/Legal, Enterprise Architecture, and cross-functional stakeholders without owning their processes
• Executive-level communication skills, since the role controls how the IT department presents itself upward and outward
• Demonstrated ability to build strategic planning, financial, and governance processes from scratch in a cross-functional environment
• Comfort operating as the hands-on sole builder before transitioning into manager of a small team
• Daily use of LLM assistants for research, drafting, analysis, and problem-solving, with judgment about when AI is and is not the right tool

Nice to have

• Experience identifying which recurring IT operations processes (renewal tracking, planning-artifact assembly, spend consolidation, reporting) should shift from manual to AI-assisted work and embedding that into team workflows
