Job description

Director, Technical Program Management

Are you interested in leading programs that deliver on critical business goals and build large scale products & platforms?

At Capital One, we’re changing banking for good. We were founded on the belief that no one should be locked out of the financial system. We’re dedicated to helping foster a world where everyone has an equal opportunity to prosper.

We’re a bank, but we don’t think like one. We’re always thinking about what’s next, about how we can innovate and inspire, and about how we can develop the tools our customers need to improve their financial lives - by leveraging best in class technology. That’s where you come in.

The Frontier of AI & Solutions TPM team is at the forefront of driving innovation by accelerating Generative AI (GenAI) from cutting‑edge research into secure, compliant, and scalable enterprise‑scale production. We own and advance core platforms and high‑impact solutions, establishing the definitive enterprise guardrails and delivery pathways that enable safe, accelerated AI adoption across the entire company.

We are seeking an exceptional Technical Program Manager (TPM) to drive programs at the intersection of Generative AI research and production‑scale deployment. This role will focus on multi‑agent conversational systems, agentic AI architectures, inference optimization, and model pre‑training/finetuning workflows. You will collaborate closely with world‑class researchers, engineers, and cross‑functional stakeholders to take cutting‑edge AI models from concept to production, while ensuring alignment with risk, compliance, and business objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Have strong technical backgrounds (ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services) with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery life‑cycle.
  • Provide a quantitative approach to problem solving and a collaborative implementer of holistic solutions; a systems thinker.
  • Simplify the technically complex and drive well‑educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives.
  • Drive development and orchestration of agentic AI chatbots and intelligent assistants, enabling scalable, context‑aware multi‑agent interactions.
  • Partner with researchers to manage pre‑training, finetuning, and inference optimization efforts, ensuring performance and efficiency at scale.
  • Collaborate with risk, security, and compliance teams to identify and mitigate risks associated with generative.
  • Establish frameworks for experimentation, evaluation, and deployment of generative AI models; track milestones, dependencies, and delivery.
  • Translate cutting‑edge academic research into practical applications and drive adoption into production environments.
  • Have exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Have excellent problem‑solving and influencing skill.
  • Provide a deep focus on execution, follow‑through, accountability, and results.
  • Provide exceptional cross‑team collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering).
  • At least 7 years of experience managing technical programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience designing and building data‑intensive solutions using distributed computing.
  • 3+ years of experience in building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services / architecture – preferably using AWS.
  • 3+ years experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms.
  • 3+ years of experience with Agile delivery.
  • 3+ years of experience delivering large and complex programs – where you own the business or technical vision, collaborate with large cross‑functional teams, secure commitments on deliverables and unblock teams to land business impact.
  • Experience in building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment.
  • MBA or Master’s Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering) or equivalent experience.
