Deloitte’s Tax & Legal practice in the UK is seeking an ambitious lawyer at Associate Director or Director level to lead high-profile direct tax disputes for blue-chip clients. You will manage complex HMRC investigations, ADR matters and court appeals, collaborating with Tax teams across industries.

The role emphasizes strategic advisory, client leadership and go-to-market involvement, with a focus on delivering measurable client outcomes and inclusive leadership across the LAS team.

Qualifications

• UK-qualifications as a solicitor or barrister with current practising certificate.
• Significant experience in HMRC investigations, tax litigation and ADR matters.
• Detailed understanding of UK civil court procedural rules including Tax Tribunal Rules and administrative law.
• Proven ability to develop dispute resolution strategies with commercial and reputational awareness.
• Strong client-facing and business development skills with senior stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to mentor and develop junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Take day-to-day conduct of complex HMRC investigations, enquiries, litigation and ADR matters in direct taxes.
• Lead tax appeals, develop litigation strategy, and oversee preparation of notices of appeal and submissions.
• Oversee research into statute and case law, and coordination with Counsel and tribunals.
• Provide clear strategic advice on technical and legal issues affecting client matters.
• Develop and maintain key client relationships and contribute to business development.
