Job summary

Albemarle Corporation seeks a Director of Media Relations and U.S. Public Affairs to strengthen global brand and reputation through strategic media relations and community engagement. Hybrid role with in-office time in Charlotte, NC and Kings Mountain, NC, reporting to the Head of Global Communications.

The role requires leading media relations, crisis communications, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with government relations to advance corporate priorities across the U.S. and beyond.

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years of communications or public relations experience.
• 7+ years in media relations leadership with international media experience.
• 3+ years of people management.
• Proven experience in dealing with issues/crisis communications.
• Strong understanding of AP style.
• Experience in community/government affairs and stakeholder engagement strategies.
• Strategic thinker able to navigate messaging across diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Serve as company spokesperson and primary media contact.
• Develop and manage deadline-driven, reactive media responses in collaboration with leadership.
• Monitor external media visibility and deliver data-driven insights for risk and opportunity.
• Develop stakeholder and community engagement strategies for U.S. resource sites.
• Advise site leadership on communications with government and community stakeholders.
• Liaise with government relations and project teams on permitting and grants.
• Manage messaging reviews for Kings Mountain site communications, including website and social content.
• Collaborate with Investor Relations, Government Relations, and External Affairs on media outcomes.
• Define and execute a strategic media relations plan with measurable objectives.
