Job summary

HELP USA's Webster Ave shelter in the Bronx seeks a Director of Social Services to lead a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed team serving single adult women experiencing homelessness. You’ll oversee case management, coordinate medical, mental health, immigration legal services, and ESL supports, and ensure seamless intake-to-case handoff.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in social work, has at least five years of management experience in homelessness services, and is bilingual

• Master's degree in social work preferred; Bachelor's required.
• Minimum five years of management experience in homelessness services.
• Bilingual fluency in a second language, ideally Spanish.
• Experience with NYC DHS and CARES preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision to Case Managers and Recreation Specialists, ensuring quality services.
• Develop and monitor service linkages for medical and mental health, legal, childcare, ESL, interpretation and translation services.
• Ensure smooth handoff from Intake to Case Management.
• Identify changing program needs and create new services or programs.
• Identify staff development needs and arrange training.
• Manage a small caseload as needed.

What You’ll Do

If you want to help struggling and vulnerable adults, this could be a great opportunity for you. HELP Webster Ave, located in the Bronx, New York, is a shelter for single adult women. As Director of Social Services, you’ll lead a social services team providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed services.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing direct supervision to Case Managers and Recreation Specialists, ensuring the delivery of quality and appropriate services to clients through case conferences, team meetings, supervision, and case record reviews.
• Developing and monitoring service linkages for medical and mental health care, immigration legal services, childcare, school registration and related services, ESL instruction, interpretation and translation services, and other services as needed.
• Ensuring a smooth handoff from the Intake process to the Case Management team.
• Identifying changing program needs and program gaps and developing new services, service directions, and/or programs to meet client needs.
• Identifying staff development issues and ensuring staff receive appropriate training as needed.
• Managing a small caseload as needed.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

• Master's degree in social work or related field preferred, with a Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum five years of management experience, including management of a team providing services to people experiencing homelessness.
• Bilingual fluency in a second language, ideally Spanish/English.
• Experience working with the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and knowledge of CARES are strongly preferred.
