Job summary

Highland Community College is seeking a Director of Rural Student Success to lead the Rural Student Success Center and drive strategies that improve persistence, retention, and credential completion across its rural service area.

This full-time role collaborates with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, and faculty to design proactive supports and interventions for rural, first-generation, adult, and underserved students, with strong emphasis on data-informed decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree preferred.
• Three years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, student affairs, advising, enrollment management, or related area.
• Experience working with students from diverse educational, socioeconomic, and personal backgrounds.
• Experience using data and technology to support decision-making and student-success interventions.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and day-to-day oversight of the Rural Student Success Center and its programs, services, and initiatives.
• Develop and coordinate proactive strategies to improve student persistence, retention, credential completion, and overall student success.
• Coordinate individualized student-success planning and connect students with appropriate resources.
• Lead efforts to identify and engage at-risk students or those who have stopped out.
• Coordinate outreach for programs like Scottie Gold and other completion-focused initiatives.
• Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and student services to strengthen advising and pathways to credential completion.
• Utilize data and student-success technology to identify trends, prioritize interventions, and evaluate program effectiveness.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for Title III performance objectives.
