Job summary

Berkshire Grey is seeking a Director of Software to lead the software arm of our Research and Advanced Development program in Massachusetts. You will manage a small team of senior robotics software engineers, setting priorities and guiding architectural direction.

This role combines people leadership with hands‑on technical direction, working with hardware, perception, controls, and product teams to translate ideas into robust robotic software that scales.

Qualifications

• Master6rs degree in Robotics, CS, ML, AI, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience in robotics or cyber-physical systems.
• 3+ years of technical leadership or people management experience.
• Strong Python and/or C++ expertise.
• Experience leading software architecture for advanced robotic systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of advanced robotics software engineers.
• Define priorities and drive execution across software architecture, experimentation, and integration.
• Provide architectural leadership for software systems that evaluate and incorporate emerging AI-enabled robotics capabilities.
• Guide the team in designing experiments, benchmarks, and evaluation workflows for advanced robotic behaviors.
• Evaluate new robotics technologies, models, tools, and frameworks; assess their practical value and risks.
• Drive rapid prototyping and demonstration of new robotic capabilities while ensuring reliability and maintainability.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems, perception, controls, product, and software teams to align with broader engineering needs.
• Establish engineering practices that improve team velocity and software quality.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and career development.
• Communicate plans, progress, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and stakeholders.
• Stay current with advances in robotics, AI, and simulation.
