Summa Health System in Akron, OH, seeks a Director of Risk Management / Insurance to lead a comprehensive proactive program, ensuring accurate loss runs for Finance, actuaries and consultants while safeguarding internal resources for claims.

This full-time role requires five-plus years managing professional and general liability claims, along with leadership experience. JD preferred but not required; strong knowledge of risk management and insurance policies is essential.

Qualifications

• Formal Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience: Five or more years in management of professional and general liability claims.
• Experience: Five or more years leading a Risk Management Program.
• Supervisory experience: Three to Five years in progressive leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Provides a comprehensive proactive Risk Management Program for Summa Health System.
• Ensures accurate loss runs to Finance, actuaries and outside consultants for claim payment readiness.
• Administers management of Middlebury Assurance Company, a wholly owned entity of Summa.

Summary
Assumes responsibility for providing a comprehensive proactive Risk Management Program for Summa Health System. This position ensures accurate loss runs to Finance, actuaries and outside consultants to assure internal resources are available for payment of claims. Administers management of Middlebury Assurance Company, a wholly owned entity of Summa.
Minimum Qualifications

B. J.D. Preferred But Not Required

• Experience and Training Required:
• Five (5)+ years experience in management of professional and general liability claims
• Five (5)+ years experience with direct responsibility for Risk Management Program
• Three to Five years of progressive supervisory/team leadership experience preferred
• Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of risk management program, State and Federal laws, regulations and guidelines
• Knowledge of civil court process
• Knowledge of insurance policies and lines of coverage
• Works cooperatively with management in advising of litigation strategies
• Accountable for behaviors consistent with Summa’s mission and values
• Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
• Level of Physical Demands:
