Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Director of Respiratory Therapy to provide leadership and direction for Respiratory Services, overseeing operations and staff development to deliver high-quality patient care.

You will work with physicians, the Medical Director, and hospital leadership to advance respiratory therapy practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster education and quality improvement across departments.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved respiratory therapy program.
• Current Respiratory Care license in the applicable state.
• Minimum of three years' experience in cardiopulmonary services.
• Minimum of one year in departmental management or leadership.

Position Details

Position Summary: The Director of Respiratory Therapy provides leadership and overall direction for Respiratory Services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality respiratory care and life-support services for patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. This role oversees department operations, staff development, quality and performance improvement, regulatory compliance, and respiratory therapy policies and protocols.

The Director serves as a clinical resource and educator for Respiratory Therapy staff and works collaboratively with physicians, the Medical Director, hospital leadership, and other departments to advance respiratory therapy practices and standards of care.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an approved respiratory therapy program.

Licensure: Current Respiratory Care license in the applicable state of practice.

Experience

• Minimum of three years of experience across cardiopulmonary services.
• Minimum of one year of previous departmental management experience.

Knowledge & Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong clinical knowledge of respiratory therapy practices and equipment.
• Knowledge of applicable accreditation, state health department, peer review, and quality assessment requirements.
• Ability to lead, educate, and develop respiratory therapy staff.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage clinical, operational, and quality priorities simultaneously.
