Job summary

Simpson Strong-Tie seeks a Director, Software Engineering – Residential to lead several engineering managers and about 30 developers and QA engineers, guiding the move from desktop to cloud on Azure and unifying teams under common engineering practices.

You will own the technical strategy for residential software, make architecture decisions, manage technical debt, drive CI/CD and automated testing, ensure security, and foster a remote‑first culture across multiple U.S. time zones.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
10+ years of software development experience.
5+ years leading engineering teams, including 3+ years managing managers.
Experience leading distributed software teams across time zones.
Proven experience modernizing legacy desktop or on-prem apps to cloud/web.
Experience with Microsoft stack and Azure cloud services.
Proven success delivering CI/CD adoption and automated testing.

Responsibilities

Define modernization roadmap for residential applications and re-platform legacy systems.
Own architecture decisions and set standards for cloud-native development.
Standardize SDLC across divisions; drive modern delivery practices and automated testing.
Lead a geographically distributed engineering org; foster collaboration and accountability.
Manage technical debt, security practices, and observability with Platform Engineering.
Collaborate with Product Management on roadmap and prioritization.
