Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a dynamic Director of Community Engagement and Capacity Building for the newly established Bureau of Queens Neighborhood Health. This role focuses on Jamaica, Queens, coordinating with community partners to strengthen relationships and build organizational capacity.

Qualifications

• Experience in community engagement and outreach.
• Strong background in applied public health or social sciences.
• Knowledge of data management and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate internal and external initiatives in Queens, focusing on Jamaica.
• Attend community meetings and present health status to communities.
• Develop budgets for CTL and grant-funded initiatives; monitor vendors and report to funders.
• Lead or participate in grant writing, budget proposals and HR assessments.
• Educate community stakeholders about available resources to reduce chronic diseases.
• Collaborate with program leadership to plan and monitor Bureau efforts.
• Lead grant applications to secure future funding for the Bureau.
• Develop and monitor capacity-building initiatives and data management activities.
• Present health data to community leaders to inform policy efforts.
• Support policy initiatives on food access and chronic diseases.
• Improve engagement strategies to reduce access barriers for residents.
• Supervise a team of four outreach staff.
