The Role

The Director, QRI Business Operations will support investment professionals within Quantitative Research and Investments (QRI), with a primary focus on the operational processes that enable the proprietary index and quantitative research teams. This role will support daily operational activities, including data validation, vendor relationships, issue management and other investment research support functions. The individual will work closely with various research teams and collaborate across Fidelity to ensure operational processes are well-controlled, efficient, scalable, and aligned with QRI’s strategic priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain a transparent, consistent business operations framework that drives quality, control, and continuous improvement across QRI.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with research, technology, compliance, product, vendors, internal clients and other key business partners.
  • Drive prioritization and implement improvements in execution with a focus on automation to reduce operational risk and increase efficiency.
  • Develop a solid understanding of the quantitative investment process, including data inputs, data validation, index methodology research, issue resolution and downstream operational dependencies.
  • Ensure maintenance of workflow documentation and desktop procedures, ensuring process consistency across team members.
  • Respond to evolving business priorities and new requests while balancing risk, quality, and execution timelines.
The Expertise And Skills You Bring
  • Strong analytical capabilities, with the ability to understand complex datasets and implement effective data quality controls.
  • Strong understanding of financial data, including security, company, portfolio, and index-level information, as well as pricing across equities, fixed income, and derivatives.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Snowflake, Oracle, and/or other data and automation tools; familiarity with data quality frameworks preferred.
  • Experience identifying anomalies, assessing data quality issues, and designing processes to improve workflow reliability and control.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical, investment, operational, and senior leadership teams.
  • Ability to design effective processes, identify improvement opportunities, and proactively surface risks, gaps, and dependencies.
  • Contributes positively to the team environment and is committed to strengthening Fidelity’s culture through accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, finance, or a related field.
  • 5 plus years of experience in investment operations, data operations, business operations, or a related financial services support function.
The Team

The Asset Management Investment Services (AMIS) division is comprised of: Business Operations and Strategy, Fidelity Fund and Investment Operations, Investment Services and Investment Risk Management teams. This division works together to support AM's strategic goals while operating as the best partner to the business to protect our clients via risk oversight, common data and support, as well as strategic business planning. The Quantitative Research Investment Services (QRI IS) team, while part of AMIS, is aligned with the priorities of the Quantitative Research and Investments (QRI) organization within Asset Management.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model

Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
