For our client, we are seeking a Director Public Relations and External Affairs to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.

This role will shape external communications strategies that protect and enhance the organization's reputation while supporting broader business priorities. You will partner closely with senior leadership, Brand, and Government Affairs to ensure messaging is aligned, timely, and effective. The position calls for a strong communicator who can build media relationships, guide crisis response, and help advance a trusted public presence in a highly regulated industry.

Location: Remote

Compensation: $100,000 – $120,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of public relations strategy and calendar with leadership and external partners
• Cultivate and maintain media relationships with journalists and outlets
• Oversee press release development and distribution of external communications
• Identify media opportunities and develop messaging strategies to enhance reputation
• Manage crisis communications and ensure consistent messaging during sensitive situations
• Collaborate with Brand and Government Affairs to align communications with strategic priorities
• Evaluate public relations initiatives and recommend improvements based on performance metrics

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
• Minimum of six years of experience in public relations, external communications, or media relations
• Experience developing public relations strategies and managing media relationships
• Proven ability to partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
• Preferred experience in government affairs, legislative communications, or nonprofit initiatives
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including press release development
• Ability to manage sensitive information and reputational issues
