Job Summary

The Director, Project Management - Financial Enterprise Engagement will support the Associate Vice President Financial Enterprise Engagement in leading and implementing Project Horizon, the Indiana University Financial Transformation Initiative. Project Horizon is the initiative to modernize IU's overall financial operations and systems to align them with the needs of a multi-billion dollar, public higher education institution with multiple R1 campuses. The goal of the initiative is to create a culture of fiscal responsibility and accountability to ensure the financial health and strength of IU now and in the future. This position is housed within the VPCFO organization and reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Financial Enterprise Engagement.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Directs the day-to-day execution and delivery of Project Horizon initiatives across University Administration (UA) and all IU campuses, balancing complex academic calendar constraints with project milestones.
  • Leads finance working groups and process workshops in partnership with external consultants and IUHR focused on future organizational design, workstream planning, talent assessment, and benefit/cost-saving evaluations.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between campus leaders, UA units, and external consulting partners; build strong relationships to influence alignment and drive decision-making across academic and administrative teams.
  • Facilitates project committees, working groups, and vendor teams to maintain cross-institutional buy-in, while providing regular progress updates and key decision support to Executive Management and the Core Team.
  • Partners closely with Organizational Change Management (OCM) and Communications teams to integrate change management, university-wide messaging, and training plans into overall project rollouts.
  • Manages comprehensive communication streams across all institutional levels to ensure full transparency around project goals, progress, and operational impact.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define project management methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority project management projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase web project management initiatives.
  • Manages projects to ensure on-time completion according to specifications and within budgeted costs.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of technical resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale web projects with wide audiences.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Works collaboratively with other project management leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to project management.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. $140,000 - $150,000 annually, depending upon qualifications
