Role Specific:

The Bank Tech Strategy & Operations (S&O) organization is seeking a highly organized and self-motivated Director to join the Planning & Prioritization team. As a Director of Project Management, you will be uniquely positioned to have line of sight and influence over Bank Tech’s most strategic and complex initiatives with impacts across multiple lines of business. More specifically, you will lead a Portfolio Management function, consisting of a team of project and process managers focused on partnering with lines of business and horizontal Technology teams to help them flawlessly execute their top priorities. You will leverage agile methodologies while ensuring well-managed, timely and effective delivery. You will use data to drive planning and prioritization processes with leaders in Tech and Product. You will also escalate, and gain buy-in from key stakeholders concerning respective programs to ensure appropriate execution all while coaching and developing a high performing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a well-rounded candidate to help boldly model the future of the Strategy & Operations organization.

Specific responsibilities related to project management include:

  • Demonstrates a proven track record of excellent program and portfolio management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage work in a dynamic complex environment
  • Driving all phases of portfolio and program management to include feasibility, definition, planning, prioritization, implementation and close out of projects
  • Effectively applying project management methodology and standards, and ensuring project documents are complete and up to date
  • Displaying cross-functional teamwork, communication, negotiation and leading across all levels
  • Partnering cross-functionally with key stakeholders to provide strategic and tactical thought partnership to effectively drive project delivery
  • Working with cross functional teams and influencing others to work toward common goal, regardless of resource and time constraints
  • Creating transparency and fostering relationships to adjacent teams

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of excellent project management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage work in a dynamic complex environment
  • Have excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform and influence outcomes
  • Understanding of financial systems and technology processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 7 years of Process, Project, or Program Management experience
  • At least 5 years of People Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Business Administration
  • 10+ years of Process, Project, or Program Management experience
  • 3+ years of Operations experience
  • 7+ years of People Management experience
  • 2+ years of Learning & Development experience
  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $200,100 - $228,400 for Director, Project Management

New York, NY: $218,300 - $249,100 for Director, Project Management

Wilmington, DE: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Project Management

Richmond, VA: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Project Management

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
