Job summary

Ro is seeking a Director of Automation in Romeoville, IL to lead strategy, design, and implementation of automation across pharmacy fulfillment, compounding, warehouse, and distribution. You will partner with cross-functional teams and manage capital projects to deliver scalable, compliant operations.

The role requires 8+ years of automation leadership,expertise with robotics and material handling, and a strong Lean/Six Sigma background. Travel is ~10–15% with opportunities for growth within Ro.

Qualifications

• 8+ years leading automation, industrial engineering, manufacturing, fulfillment, warehouse, or pharmacy operations initiatives.
• Experience managing large-scale automation projects from concept through implementation.
• Experience with automated material handling systems, robotics, warehouse automation, or pharma tech.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, value stream mapping, and process optimization.
• Experience developing capital budgets, business cases, and ROI analyses for operational investments.
• Excellent cross-functional leadership, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills.
• Ability to influence teams and lead organizational change in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and execution of Ro's automation strategy across pharmacy fulfillment, compounding, warehouse, packaging, and shipping operations.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement automation technologies that improve safety, quality, throughput, and scalability.
• Partner with Pharmacy Operations, Supply Chain, Technology, Finance, Facilities, and Quality teams to design workflows and optimize performance.
• Lead capital automation projects from concept through implementation, including business case development and vendor management.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to support new pharmacy builds and expansions.
• Establish performance metrics and dashboards to monitor productivity, equipment utilization, and ROI.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce waste and standardize best practices across sites.
• Ensure automation solutions meet FDA, USP, OSHA, and internal quality requirements while maintaining safety and compliance.
