Job summary

UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC, is seeking a Director of Throughput, Patient Flow & Care Progression to lead hospital-wide operational excellence and patient flow initiatives. The role focuses on reducing delays, optimizing capacity, and strengthening collaboration across emergency, inpatient, physicians, nursing, case management, and operations.

The leader will drive data-driven improvement using Lean, PDSA, and change management, and report progress to executive leadership and committees.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing or equivalent required.
• NC RN license required; nursing specialty certification preferred.
• Requires four (4) years of related experience and/or training.
• Experience leading hospital-wide throughput, LOS reduction, and data-driven improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead hospital-wide strategies to improve patient flow, reduce avoidable length of stay, and optimize capacity.
• Provide daily leadership for throughput, care progression, and operational improvement initiatives.
• Analyze observed versus expected length of stay and identify opportunities across service lines and clinical areas.
• Partner with physicians, nursing, case management, and operational leaders to remove barriers to discharge and improve care transitions.
• Develop and monitor performance dashboards and utilize data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
