The Job

The Director of Operational Excellence is responsible for leading initiatives that enhance efficiency, quality, and performance across SCAN's core operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Operational Excellence, this role involves collaborating across departments to optimize processes, implement solutions, and ensure exceptional service for members, supporting the organization's long-term success.

This position oversees quality assurance, compliance, audit readiness, capacity planning, training, knowledge management, measurement, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has a builder's mindset, extensive healthcare operations experience, and a passion for developing high-performing, compliant, and member-focused processes.

You Will
  1. Develop and execute operational excellence strategies aligned with enterprise goals to optimize workflows and service delivery.
  2. Identify operational pain points and lead initiatives to improve processes and productivity.
  3. Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and other practices to standardize work, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving.
  4. Establish quality assurance and performance monitoring programs, ensuring compliance and high standards.
  5. Lead the development of SCAN's annual readiness program to prepare business units for organizational milestones.
  6. Address operational challenges through root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  7. Plan workforce capacity to optimize resource allocation and meet business demands.
  8. Coordinate compliance and regulatory audits, maintaining audit readiness.
  9. Define and monitor KPIs, audit protocols, and service levels, leveraging data for continuous improvement.
  10. Build training and knowledge management systems to support onboarding and ongoing development.
  11. Engage with leadership and stakeholders to drive operational initiatives.
  12. Mentor and lead teams, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
  13. Manage hiring, performance reviews, and staff development.
  14. Support SCAN's vision and goals, and undertake other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Healthcare Administration.
  • Green Belt certification required; Black Belt and PMP preferred.
  • 10+ years in healthcare operations management or consulting, with experience in Medicare Advantage and quality assurance programs.
  • Experience managing dispersed teams and leading large-scale change initiatives.
  • Strong operational, process improvement, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with QI Macros, Minitab, or similar software.
  • Ability to build relationships across organizational levels and influence change.
