Job summary

The Director, Wastewater Process Engineer at WM leads enterprise-wide initiatives for landfill liquids management and treatment, aligning with the ESWT Program. You will establish policies, oversee technical standards, and guide capital projects across WM facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Biology, Chemistry or similar field.
• At least 10 years total experience with 7+ years in industrial wastewater treatment design and operations.
• Master's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Biology, Chemistry or related field preferred; 10+ years experience; 3+ years management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of staff and external consultants on environmental solutions, landfill liquids handling, treatment, and disposal.
• Assist with policy development, procedures, training, and guidance for engineering and environmental compliance; implement programs for landfill liquids handling.
• Provides leadership in permitting, design and construction of leachate treatment facilities and due diligence during asset acquisitions.
• Uses flow and mass balance to troubleshoot and improve leachate treatment facilities to ensure discharge permit compliance.
• Drives development of leachate and groundwater treatment technologies to improve operational efficiency and environmental outcomes.
• Serves as a technical resource to program management and field personnel across Engineering Science, Wastewater Treatment, Bioremediation, and Environmental Compliance.
• Balances enterprise financial goals with regulatory requirements and environmental solutions.
• Develops internal policies for environmental management based on best available science.
• Conducts independent research to justify program changes and improvements in liquids management.
