Job summary

The City of Pierre seeks a dedicated Utilities Director to oversee the operations, construction, maintenance, and repair of the city’s electric, water, and wastewater utilities while directing street construction and maintenance.

This leadership role requires ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-efficient utility services, guiding long-term infrastructure plans, and coordinating with city officials and state agencies. Bachelor-level engineering or related degree and municipal experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience.
• Strong administrative, oral and written communication skills.
• Municipal government experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs construction, maintenance, and operation of city utility systems.
• Directs street construction and maintenance.
• Sets department goals, objectives, and work standards.
• Ensures safe, reliable, and compliant delivery of utilities.
• Prepares annual budgets and revenue projections; proposes utility rate changes.
