Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Director of Staff Underwriting for Property & Casualty to lead underwriting rules, risk filters and modeling efforts across Personal Lines and related lines. You will partner with Product, Pricing, Technology and Field underwriting to design scalable, governed solutions and drive profitability.

The role emphasizes strategy execution, leadership of a team, and collaboration across corporate and field operations to improve decision quality and policy issuance velocity.

Qualifications

• Underwriting strategy and knowledge to translate into scalable rules and models.
• Experience leading rules, risk filters, and model-driven decisioning.
• Ability to partner with Product, Pricing, Technology and Field underwriting.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, governance and management of underwriting rules and controls.
• Own risk-filter management end to end, including testing and monitoring.
• Oversee model implementation, KPI measurement and recalibration impact.
• Guide technology strategy, roadmaps and modernization opportunities.
• Coordinate UAT, validation and stabilization of underwriting solutions.
• Build partnerships to improve usability, adoption and outcomes.
• Identify automation opportunities to speed and improve underwriting accuracy.
• Lead and develop a team of underwriting professionals.
