Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation in Ames, Iowa seeks a Director of the Project Management Bureau within the Transportation Development Division to lead project management, set long-range objectives, and oversee a portfolio of highway projects.

The role supervises about 12 staff, collaborates with Division Directors and District Engineers, and serves as the Department’s primary representative on interagency councils. Overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree.
• Six-and-a-half years of management-level experience in a relevant field may substitute education.
• Professional Engineer licensure in Iowa is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership of transportation project management activities.
• Supervise and manage ~12 full-time positions within the Project Management Bureau.
• Collaborate with Division Directors, District Engineers and Bureau Directors across the Department.
• Oversee software to schedule, fund, and track projects from planning through construction letting.
• Represent the Department on interagency councils and coordinate with consultants.
