- Act as the final technical review authority on multi-tiered, complex client filings involving equity compensation (RSUs, ISOs, NQSOs, 83(b) elections), multi-state apportionments, tiered pass-through entities, and foreign asset reporting.
- Ensure strict adherence to internal review standards, Circular 230 guidelines, statutory deadlines, and ethical codes of practice.
- Partner seamlessly with the firm’s strategic tax planning and controversy teams to translate multi-year tax blueprints into compliant tax filings.
Operational Architecture & Workflow Management
- Lead, architect, and optimize tax department operations, systems, and resource planning to ensure peak operational velocity and zero-defect delivery across filing seasons.
- Supervise, mentor, and scale a high-volume tax team of 20+ professionals (managers, senior reviewers and preparers), establishing clear KPIs, accountability frameworks, and performance benchmarks.
- Design and implement modern workflow management protocols, load balancing, real-time bottleneck identification, and milestone tracking from initial client document ingestion through final delivery and e-filing.
Client Delivery & Executive Advisory
- Serve as a senior technical authority in high-stakes client conferences, deconstructing intricate tax returns and filing positions for tech founders, serial entrepreneurs, and executive leadership.
- Oversee client onboarding for tax compliance workflows, ensuring timely gathering of source documentation, resolution of complex tax notices, and proactive client communication during crunch periods.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with private wealth managers, estate planning attorneys, and fractional CFOs to ensure unified advisory execution across all client touchpoints.
- Cultivate a culture of continuous technical education, designing internal training curricula around evolving tax codes, court rulings, and multi-state tax changes.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, identify operational friction points, and implement ongoing process improvements to elevate departmental efficiency and employee engagement.
Qualifications & Skills
- Active license in good standing as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Enrolled Agent (EA), or Juris Doctor (JD) with a dedicated focus on taxation.
Professional Experience
- 15+ years of hands-on experience in complex federal and multi-state tax preparation and review, primarily servicing HNW/UHNW individuals, executive compensation structures, and closely held businesses.
- Demonstrated track record of directly managing, developing, and scaling a tax team of 20+ professionals in a fast-paced, high-volume environment (national accounting firm, elite regional firm, or private family office practice).
Technical & Operational Mastery
- Deep expertise in individual taxation (Schedule C, complex Schedule E, AMT, Net Investment Income Tax) and pass-through taxation (allocations, basis schedules, capital accounts, debt restructuring).
- Proven ability to engineer operational workflows, establish departmental SLAs, and manage billable/realization metrics without compromising technical precision.
Leadership & Executive Presence
- Decisive operational leadership with the ability to manage high-pressure tax deadlines, set unambiguous expectations, and inspire accountability across a sizable team.
- Polished, executive-level communication and interpersonal skills, equally comfortable breaking down technical tax nuances for clients and presenting operational readouts to executive stakeholders.

- Master of Science in Taxation (MST), Master of Accounting (MAcc), or LL.M. in Taxation is strongly preferred.
Employment Type & Location
