Job description

Lead a Sophisticated Tax Practice Like You Own It

Are you the tax professional clients call first, and the leader your team counts on to make sure nothing slips? Do you take pride in a clean filing season, with every return accurate, every deadline met, and every client question answered quickly? Do you get excited about advanced tax strategy that genuinely grows and protects family wealth?

If so, we'd like to talk with you.

Camarda Wealth Advisors is a fee-only RIA delivering family-office-style comprehensive advice to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth families and business owners. Our tax division, TaxMaster, provides tax preparation, advanced tax and wealth planning strategy, IRS representation, accounting, entity and estate structuring, and related services, fully integrated with our wealth management team.

We're looking for an entrepreneurial Tax Practice Director to lead TaxMaster. This role combines hands-on technical work, client relationship leadership, and running the business: people, process, profitability, and growth.

What Success Looks Like

Our three priorities are simple: quality work, on-time delivery, and long-term client retention. You'll own all three.

What You'll Do
  • Build deep, lasting relationships with HNW and UHNW clients whose needs span complex portfolios, multi-entity tax situations, trusts and estates, and asset protection.
  • Deliver accurate, timely, and practical tax advice, and translate complex strategy into clear language clients can act on.
  • Return all client calls and emails no later than noon the next business day.
  • Represent clients before the IRS and resolve notices, disputes, and audits.
Practice Operations and Deadline Control
  • Own the deadline calendar: filings, extensions, estimated payments, IRS response windows, and client follow-ups.
  • Manage engagement workflows across preparers, tax strategists, bookkeepers, and legal partners from document collection through delivery, billing, and collections.
  • Enforce a "complete information before preparation begins" process that drives accuracy and labor efficiency.
  • Integrate and improve our software systems (Salesforce, Intuit ProConnect, QuickBooks Online, DocuSign) to strengthen workflow visibility and client communication.
  • Oversee AP/AR, client billing, and the division's financial reporting.
  • Maintain rigorous cybersecurity and confidentiality protocols to protect sensitive client data and prevent identity theft.
  • Lead, delegate to, and develop a team of preparers, support staff, interns, and outside contractors.
  • Set high standards for accuracy and timeliness and hold the team to them.
  • Personally prepare and sign returns as needed (1040, 1065, 1120/1120S, 1041, and others).
Growth and Business Development
  • Spot planning opportunities during routine work and present proposals consultatively, always in the client's best interest.
  • Prepare, present, and follow through on proposals for tax strategy, estate planning, asset protection, and other services.
  • Partner with our wealth management team on cross-referrals and new client onboarding.
  • Help expand our IRS Representation practice and other service lines.
What You Bring
  • Active CPA, Enrolled Agent, or licensed Tax Attorney credential.
  • 3+ years personally preparing 200+ returns, including 1040s, 1065s, and 1120/1120S with K-1s.
  • Experience managing both a tax prep team and tax practice operations or administrative staff.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and a track record of holding a team to detailed CRM procedures.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices for protecting confidential financial information.
Preferred
  • 3+ years preparing 1041s (trusts and estates) and 5500s.
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM and Intuit ProConnect.
  • Exposure to estate planning, asset protection, entity structuring, or qualified plan work.
Who Thrives Here

You’ll fit right in if you are:

  • Detail-obsessed and deadline-driven. You review work as if it will be audited, and you plan backward from due dates.
  • Organized and systems-minded. You build processes so nothing depends on memory or heroics.
  • Personable, empathic, and polished. You're comfortable with founders, executives, and multigenerational families.
  • Highly responsive. Clients and colleagues always know where things stand.
  • Analytical and passionate about advanced tax strategy. You're always learning and sharpening your expertise.
  • Assertive and fair. You set clear expectations and hold people to them, including yourself.
  • Entrepreneurial. You're a self-starter who treats the practice like your own business and sees opportunities others miss.
  • A natural consultative advisor. You grow relationships by educating, never by pushing.
  • Committed to getting it done right, including extended hours during tax season when quality and deadlines require it.
  • A positive team player who contributes to a collegial, hardworking, and fun culture.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive base salary of $80,000 - $120,000 based on experience.
  • Profit sharing in the tax division's net profits.
  • Performance-based bonus.
  • Path to partnership consideration for top performers.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage from day one.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Health care and dependent care FSAs.
  • Employer-paid life insurance, plus short- and long-term disability.
  • Wellness programs.
  • Tuition reimbursement and ongoing professional development, including proprietary training in advanced tax, estate, and asset protection planning.
  • A merit-based culture that promotes from within, with no ceiling on how far you can go.
Good to Know
  • This is a primarily in-office role, because close collaboration with our tax and wealth teams drives our client experience. Some flexibility may be available.
  • This is a full-time, exclusive position. Outside tax, accounting, or advisory practice must end before you start.
  • Employment is contingent on background and reference checks.

To show us your attention to detail, please begin your cover note with the phrase "Deadlines Matter." In a few sentences, tell us about one system you built or improved that helped your team meet a filing deadline.
