Job description

Neil Jesani Advisors (NJA) is a national tax and advisory firm serving high-net-worth individuals and mid-market businesses across the United States. Our team of CPAs, tax attorneys, IRS Enrolled Agents, CFPs, and fractional CFOs provides tax, compliance, accounting, tax resolution, and advisory services. We are headquartered in Sunrise, Florida, with a West Coast office in Las Vegas.

For more than 20 years, our work has been built on responsive client service, deep technical expertise, and integrity. Internally, we value ownership, entrepreneurship, and steady improvement in how we work.

About the Role

This is an internal corporate accounting role within NJA’s own finance function. It does not involve client tax or advisory work. The Senior Accountant owns core accounting work across NJA’s multiple entities and business lines and reports to the Corporate Financial Controller. You will run assigned month-end close activities, maintain the general ledger and reconciliations, prepare revenue recognition schedules, lease accounting schedules, and support external audits. You will also play a hands-on part in two major initiatives: converting historical records from cash to accrual accounting and implementing a cloud-based ERP.

This role suits an accountant who likes building things as well as maintaining them: someone who wants to help turn a growing firm’s accounting into a scalable, well-controlled function.

Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules for accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, leases, and payroll; review entries prepared by others when assigned by the Controller.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts monthly; investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly, with complete documentation for Controller review.
  • Own assigned close activities and maintain the close checklist, flagging early any issue that could affect reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports by entity and business line, with variance analysis.
  • Prepare intercompany entries, reconciliations, and eliminations for consolidated reporting.
General Ledger & Full-Cycle Accounting
  • Process accounts payable in the ERP, including vendor setup, coding, and routing invoices through approval workflows.
  • Record billings from the practice management system, maintain customer records in ERP, apply revenue recognition rules to new and updated contracts, and apply customer payments.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, depreciation schedules, and lease schedules (ASC 842).
  • Maintain commission and contract-cost schedules and record the related accruals, capitalization, and amortization under approved policies.
  • Prepare sales tax, 1099, and other routine compliance filings.
  • Prepare acquisition accounting schedules, reconcile acquired balances, and help integrate acquired entities’ records and processes.
Accrual Conversion & Revenue Recognition
  • Help convert historical cash-basis records to accrual accounting.
  • Prepare and maintain revenue recognition and deferred revenue schedules under NJA’s ASC 606 policies and organize the contract data that supports them.
  • Escalate unusual contract terms and accounting judgments to the Controller and help document revenue recognition policies with the Controller and outside advisors.
ERP Implementation & Process Improvement
  • Work with the CFO and Controller on ERP implementation, including chart of accounts design, data cleanup and migration, system testing, user training, and process documentation.
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting workflows, automation, and reporting.
Internal Controls & Audit
  • Follow and strengthen internal controls, including segregation of duties and approval matrices, and keep complete audit trails for entries and transactions.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors and outside advisors.
  • Take on special projects and accounting initiatives as the firm grows.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting, including ASC 606 revenue recognition and lease accounting.
  • Multi-entity accounting experience, including intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations.
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud-based ERP such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Campfire or a comparable platform.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and reconciling large datasets.
  • Ability to investigate discrepancies, document conclusions clearly, and know when to elevate.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA license, or progress toward the CPA.
  • Experience with ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Experience with ERP implementation, migration, or cash-to-accrual conversion.
  • Experience supporting an external audit.
  • Background in professional services, financial services, or public accounting.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, ADP, Canopy, or similar accounting and practice management tools.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily on-site at our Sunrise, Florida headquarters during standard business hours.
  • Additional hours may be needed around month-end close, audit fieldwork, and ERP go-live milestones.
  • Occasional travel
