Position Summary:

The Director of Student Affairs provides leadership and support for law students by promoting student success, well‑being, and engagement throughout their academic experience. This position serves as a primary resource for students facing personal, academic, financial, or health‑related challenges and coordinates access to university support services and accommodations. The Director oversees the administration of student accommodations, supervises staff, and advises student organizations. The role also manages the law school’s mentorship program, fostering meaningful connections among students, alumni, faculty, and legal professionals. Additionally, the Director plans and executes student orientation programs and supports key community‑building and ceremonial events.

Duties/Responsibilities: Student Support


  • Provide holistic support to individual students experiencing personal social and emotional problems, disabilities, financial challenges, and health issues through informal counseling and by directing them to the appropriate campus resources, such as the University Health Center, Counseling and Psychiatric Services, Student Care and Outreach, and the Accessibility and Testing Office.

  • Serve as primary contact for CAPS counselor in attendance, schedule CAPS counselor hours and acquire counselor space.

  • Establish and execute student mental health initiatives and events, such as Wellness Week and ABA Mental Health Day.

  • Serve as primary contact for faculty, staff, and students to report concerns regarding individual student well‑being. Collect information related to concerns and check in on students and/or report information to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs if appropriate.

  • Support Associate Dean for Academic Affairs regarding academic performance, student conduct, EOO, and academic dishonesty matters.

  • Counsel students regarding withdrawal from the law school and re‑enrollment.

  • Help JD, MSL, and LLM students integrate into the law school community.

  • Inform students regarding the law school emergency fund. Collect and disseminate student applications for support from the law school emergency fund.

  • Support the law school’s annual commencement ceremony.

  • Serve as advisor to the SB, providing guidance and direction on matters and events.

  • Ensure that all law students are made aware of services offered by the University Accessibility & Testing Office (ATO).

  • Coordinate with ATO and individual students to implement reasonable accommodations.

  • Coordinate with faculty and individual students to implement reasonable accommodations.

  • Coordinate with law school IT to implement reasonable accommodations.

  • Manage and administer all reasonable classroom and exam accommodations for law students.

  • Field and respond to accommodation‑related inquiries and requests.

  • Administer services for temporarily disabled students.

  • Counsel students on accommodations process for MPRE examination and bar examinations.

  • Compile, edit, and distribute mentor resources.

  • Work with IT services to manage the electronic mentorship platform.
