Job summary

The DSD will identify education needs, collaborate with the IDT, and implement infection control education while developing departmental goals and calendars.

Qualifications

  • Current state licensure as LVN.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong educational and organizational skills.
  • Experience in long-term care with elderly or chronically ill.
  • One year of direct resident care in long-term care with education program planning, or two years of nursing with LTC and a 24-hour DSD course within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, conduct, and coordinate educational programs for all Skilled Nursing personnel.
  • Ensure orientation and ongoing in-service programs meet policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Determine educational needs via assessments, surveys, and collaboration with the Director of Nursing and the IDT.
  • Collaborate with all levels of unit nursing personnel, including the Director of Nursing, physicians, consultants, and the IDT.
  • Organize, analyze, investigate, and implement infection control principles.
  • Establish Staff Development Department goals and objectives.
  • Conduct orientation for all unit employees per State and Federal regulations.
  • Maintain current DHS-approved orientation and in-service training for CNAs.
  • Coordinate 24 hours of in-service education annually for CNAs on all shifts.
  • Coordinate ongoing in-service education for nursing and support staff.
  • Develop an annual education and in-service calendar per regulatory standards.
  • Complete and post a monthly education and in-service calendar.
  • Maintain records of all SNF orientation, education, and in-service programs.
  • Assist CNAs with the recertification process with the Department of Health Services.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Staff Development (DSD) to join our team at Golden Rose Care Center, a 95-bed (22 beds are a Subacute unit) Skilled Nursing Facility in Pasadena, California. As a DSD, you will be responsible for planning, conducting, and coordinating educational programs for the development and improvement of necessary skills and knowledge for all Skilled Nursing personnel. Responsibilities:
  • Plan, conduct, and coordinate educational programs for the development and improvement of necessary skills and knowledge for all Skilled Nursing personnel
  • Ensure that orientation and ongoing in-service programs are conducted according to facility policy and procedure, in compliance with all state and federal regulations
  • Determine the educational needs of the facility through regular education needs assessments, through review of surveys by the regulatory agencies, and through collaboration with the Director of Nursing and the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Collaborate with all levels of unit nursing personnel, including the Director of Nursing, physicians, consultants, and the IDT in assessing needs and providing education to the facility
  • Must be able to organize, analyze, investigate, and implement principles of infection control committee
  • Establish Staff Development Department goals and objectives
  • Conduct an orientation program for all employees of the unit in accordance with all State and Federal long-term care Regulations
  • Maintain current Department of Health Services-approved facility programs for orientation and in-service training of certified nurse assistants (CNA's)
  • Coordinate and conduct 24 hours of in-service education annually for certified nursing assistants on all shifts
  • Coordinate ongoing in-service education specific to Skilled Nursing care for all nursing staff assigned to the unit, as well as for other ancillary and support staff as requested by the facility
  • Develop an annual education and in-service calendar in accordance with all regulatory standards, and education needs assessment
  • Complete and post a monthly education and in-service calendar
  • Maintain records of all SNF orientation, education, and in-service programs
  • Assist certified nursing assistants with the re-certification process with the Department of Health Services
Qualifications:
  • Current state licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification
  • Strong educational and organizational skills
  • Previous experience in long-term care which includes direct care of the aged or chronically ill and/or experience in assessment of resident's level of care
  • One year of direct resident care experience in a long-term care facility and one year of experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in the field of nursing or; two years full-time experience as a licensed nurse, one year of which must be in a long-term care facility; and completion of an approved 24-hour Director of Staff Development course within 6 months of hire
  • Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must have knowledge and awareness of the care needs of the elderly and/or chronically ill
  • Must have knowledge and ability to teach adult learners
  • Must have basic computer skills
