Job summary

Fidelity Charitable is seeking a Director of Software Engineering on our Durham campus. You will own end-to-end delivery for key applications, define technical strategy, and lead a delivery team of engineers, analysts, and testers.

Qualifications

• Proven software engineering leadership experience.
• Experience directly managing engineers responsible for full lifecycle delivery.
• Experience leading distributed teams and improving team maturity.
• Clear communication to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Influence decisions across a complex ecosystem without direct authority.
• Comfort across the full software development lifecycle and incident management.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, distributed services, and SDLC.
• Passion for CI/CD and engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Define and communicate an engineering strategy and execution roadmap aligned with business goals.
• Own delivery targets focusing on outcomes, user experience, and platform sustainability.
• Translate requirements into technical milestones and delivery plans.
• Balance near-term needs with reuse, scalability, and standardization.
• Provide technical leadership across a cross-functional delivery team.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and operationally sound.
• Maintain technical credibility across web services, APIs, and databases.
• Ensure on-time, high-quality releases and production stability.
• Lead estimation, dependency mapping, sequencing, and capacity planning.
• Collaborate with product/program management for delivery health and transparency.
• Champion CI/CD practices to improve quality and speed.
• Support incident management, root cause analysis, and remediation.
• Oversee engineering talent lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance.
• Build and scale high-performing engineering leadership teams.
• Drive adoption of modern engineering practices and tools.
