Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Press seeks an accomplished Director to guide the press through a period of profound transformation in scholarly publishing. The role requires deep publishing expertise, strategic vision, financial acumen, and technological fluency, reporting to the Provost and collaborating with library and university leadership.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing a revenue‑generating business with a significant-sized staff and a budget greater than $10 million.
  • Excellent leadership and strategic planning abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of scholarly publishing economics and copyright/contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for JHU Press across books, journals, Project MUSE, and Hopkins Fulfillment Services.
  • Articulate a forward‑looking strategy that aligns with university priorities and evolving scholarly communication models.
  • Strengthen financial sustainability through budgeting, multi‑year planning, and performance management.
  • Build relationships with faculty, authors, editors, libraries, and publishing partners.

Education

Bachelor's Degree
MBA or similar degree
